A few weeks ago I had the great pleasure of taking an old pal of mine to my local swimming haunt at Wardie Bay. Journalist Richard Baynes had got in touch because he wanted to record a wee piece on winter swimming for Radio Scotland, pitched to air around new year in time with the Loony Dooks going on around the country.
Richard and I had worked together at The Herald and Sunday Herald – a lifetime ago – so it was a real privilege to take my old comrade winter swimming. Richard recorded my swim first, then went in himself, bookending the swims with a few words from the both of us.
